Are you looking for an item that is not on our shelves? We can request it for you from another library!
Borrowing within TRAC
Our online catalogue not only searches our collection but it linked to over 150 member libraries of TRAC (The Regional Automation Consortium). Use the place request button to place a hold on items not available in Grande Prairie. Items shipped within TRAC can take two weeks to arrive at our library. If you have any questions about requesting from another TRAC library, please contact our Information Desk staff at (780) 357-7455.
Please check the TRAC catalogue before placing an interlibrary loan request.
You are able to search for items not owned by TRAC libraries yourself through TAL Online. TAL (The Alberta Library) links the collections from all libraries within the province into one searchable database.
As of February 10th, public library users will no longer be able to make interlibrary loan requests directly from TAL Online. Public library users can continue to use TAL Online to search as well as create, print and share reading lists.
Grande Prairie Public Library users can submit their requests to GPPL directly. If an item is not available through the shared catalogue at gppl.ca, but is available from another library on TAL Online, please submit your request to email@example.com or call 780-357-7468.
Alberta Public Library Services Branch (PLSB) will be launching a new resource sharing system to be used by public libraries in Alberta.
By searching TAL Online, you many also:
- Borrow in person from Alberta's academic libraries using a TAL Card (sign up at Customer Services)
- Borrow in person from Alberta's public libraries with your Grande Prairie card using the ME Libraries service
Requesting an Item
If you are unable to find the item you are looking for in TAL Online, you can fill out an Interlibrary Loan Request Form and Library staff will try to locate the item on your behalf. To process your request, you must have a GPPL card and an account in good standing. There is a limit of 5 active interlibrary loan requests per membership.
It can take three to six weeks for interlibrary loan material to arrive, but in some cases this may be longer. You will be notified by phone, email or text when your item arrives.
What material cannot be requested?
- Circulating material owned by TRAC libraries
- Books published and/or copyrighted in the current year
- eBooks and downloadable material
- Textbooks and course material for academic courses
Cancelling a request
Please let library staff know if you would like to cancel your ILL Request.
The loan period is set by the lending library. Most libraries will lend their items for 3 weeks.
Returns and Renewals
Materials must be returned with the ILL Bookband/Barcode card attached to the item. Items returned without these are subject to a $2.00 fee.
Renewals are not available for interlibrary loan materials as the loan period is determined by the lending library. Items may not be re-requested for a 3 month period.
Late fees for overdue ILL material are $1.00 a day to a maximum for $10.00 per item. These late fees are the responsibility of the borrower. Late return of ILL material may result in the loss of interlibrary loan borrowing privileges.
Charges for lost or damaged items are decided by the lending library and may be quite substantial. These charges are solely the responsibility of the customer, GPPL staff cannot waive or reduce these fees.
If you have any questions about requesting materials from other libraries, please contact Interlibrary Loans at 780-357-7468.
