National Poetry Month was first celebrated in 1996, by the Academy of American Poets. Shortly after, in 1998 National Poetry Month was established in Canada by the League of Canadian poets. National Poetry Month brings together individuals and institutions to celebrate the importance of poetry in Canada's culture.

If you're thinking about entering GPPL's Annual Teen Poetry contest, but feeling uninspired, here are some poetry books to get you going!

Visit the League of Canadian Poets to find out more information about National Poetry Month!
